Scrap Car Dealers Urged To Be Vigilant
Scrap Car Dealers are urged to be vigilant by West Midlands Police after numerous thefts and fraudelent cases. In one story published in the Birmingham Evening Mail recently:
A man phoned a scrap merchants on May 22 to say he had a Volkswagen transporter to sell. But it was, in fact, a recently-rebuilt family heirloom that had broken down in Palfrey.
Before the real owner could arrange recovery, the man, arranged its removal. The vehicle was later reported as stolen and was discovered following a routine check at the scrap merchant’s.
DC Lynsey Damms, from Walsall’s local priority team, said: “These two received significant sentences for several offences and hopefully the victims can receive some reassurance that justice has been done.”
“Scrap merchants are now on board with local police and are being checked regularly by officers and their books are scrutinised. Crimes of this nature will not be tolerated by me or my team.”
